Counselors
COUNSELOR’S CORNER:
Happy Fall! This month in the counseling room we are still working on one student's skills. We are finishing the first unit that focuses on: active listening, how to focus attention, what is and how to use an assertive voice, and using self-talk to help us learn better. Our next unit is Empathy and we are going to be able to identify feelings, grow in understanding that people can have different feelings about a situation and those feelings can change, respecting different preferences and how to show care and concern. In our Wednesday lessons, we continue to wrap up our character lessons of kindness and respect.
During the weeks that I am not teaching, I begin to organize and lead small groups. Small groups are skill building groups of 4-6 students. The skills that were identified from a needs assessment are self-regulation (identifying a feeling and choosing a coping strategy), friendships, or self-control (the ability to interrupt thought and action). If your student is invited to be a part of one of my small groups, I will send an invitation home with them and an email to check their backpacks. Thank you so much for sharing your children with me!
