High School Teacher, Mr. Adam Twenter recognized for National Education Teacher of the Year Award

Mr. Adam Twenter is the Band Director for both the Middle and High School students within the Pleasant Hill, Missouri School District.  Mr. Twenter has been teaching for over 13 years and possesses an innate ability to connect with students; while also instilling a sense of national pride and patriotism among students, the community, and veterans.  He is truly one of America’s best educators and is deserving of recognition.

This year, Mr. Twenter took the initiative to organize an outdoor 9/11 memorial involving students, faculty, community leaders, and the entire ‘Pride of Hill’ Marching Band.  Mr. Twenter also coordinated a special invitation requesting the presence of all active military, veterans, and fire and rescue first responders within the community.  The event was extremely well-attended at the Eklund Field sports complex, and began with Mr. Twenter welcoming everyone in attendance followed by humbling comments regarding the purpose of the event.  At that time, all active military, veterans, and first responders were invited to leave their seats and line up on the field sidelines to be recognized.

The ‘Pride of the Hill’ Marching band then performed the National Anthem.  Following this performance, a moment of silence was observed at 8:03 A.M. in remembrance of the events of 9/11.  The event concluded with band members walking down the row of first responders, veterans, and active duty personnel offering gratitude along with a personal hand-shake.

It is apparent that Mr. Twenter does not need to facilitate this memorial/remembrance event.  Rather, he takes on the burden coordinating such an event so as to ensure the community remembers and reflects on the events of 9/11, while also instilling a sense of civic responsibility among his students; many of which were not even born prior to 9/11.  Additionally, Mr. Twenter uses this memorial as a platform to reach out to all first responders and recognize both past and present actions to said responders.  Mr. Twenter is truly deserving of being recognized for his steadfast efforts.
